The Spider Monkey and the Howler Monkey I
One day the howler monkey met up with the spider monkey, wanting to make fun of him, he hid his thumb and said, “Look, I only have four fingers. How is it that you have five? How odd, no?” The spider monkey looked at his own hand and then at the howler monkey’s hand and then thought, “If my hand looks odd with five fingers, I too want only four fingers.” So, he decided to cut a finger off, since that day the spider monkey has four fingers instead of five.

The Tigres Death (The Indians call jaguars “tigres”)
One day three sons decided to go hunting. They constructed a small hut in the field and spread yucca around the hut to attract small animals; they did not want to hunt large animals since they only had small arrows. However, along came a tiger and it killed two of the sons. The third escaped and fled to his parents´ house to inform them about what had happened. The parents did not find the bodies of their two sons, since the tiger had eaten them. There were only a few parts left over. The father tied the parts to a stick to use as bait for the tiger. During the night the tiger showed up and the father killed it. That is how the tiger died.

The Snakes' Death

Before there were snakes so large that they could swallow whole humans. One of these snakes was hidden in a tree by the river’s edge. Since the people then did not have knifes in order to make arrows, they used the teeth of the picuramama (a big rodent, related to pacas). On the river bank, two adolescents were collecting the picuramama teeth in order to make arrows. Suddenly, the snake that was hidden in the tree fell onto one of the adolescents. He fought the monster and managed to escape, but within a few seconds the snake caught up with him again. The boy called out for his friend to help him; however his friend had already fled. The boy desperately fought the snake and he positioned his bow so that the snake could not swallow him.

Finally the snake let go of the boy, who ran toward the river looking back. He then saw that two more snakes were chasing him! But before they could reach him he was able to make it to his canoe and escape down the river. When he reached his house he was sick for five days, then he brought the entire town together and said, “These snakes are a threat to us all, we must kill them.” Everyone agreed with him. The following day they went to hunt and killed all the snakes.

The Bear and the Woman
A couple decides to go to the forest. The woman is walking behind her husband, when they suddenly meet up with two bears. The male bear snatches the woman (look at the statue in Paucartambo), while the female bear snatches the man.

The male bear climbs a tall tree with the woman and there he builds a house, the tree was so large that the woman could not get down. After five years the woman gives birth to child, when the child was 8 years old they both manage to climb down the tree and escape home.
