Medicinal Plants
• Guayaba : to lower a fever. The guayaba grows abundantly here, it is
also planted. To use it you must rub the leaf between your hands, then
put it in a pot with water. You wash your forehead with the water.
• Ajosacha : to lower a fever, as well as for headaches and body pain.
To use it, place the leave in a pot with water, boil the mixture. Use
the steam to cure the above problems.
• Contraception: boil the leaf of the avocado with cogollo del algodón.
Add a bit of lemon and drink as a tea. To be used after your period
cycle has ended, early in the morning, between 05:00 and 06:00am.
• To increase your chance at getting pregnant, there are also plants
but Lola does not remember the exact names. There’s a type of small
onion; grate the center part, place in boiling water and drink.
• For rheumatism, use moco–moco. Place the leaf in a pot with water
and boil. Use the steam to cure yourself, or you can wash yourself
with the mixture, then cover-up well.
• For colic's, boil the leaf of the cotton plant, along with the leaf
of a large pineapple and the nucleus of an orange. You then drink the
beverage.
• For bronchitis, one eats fried or raw suri. It is good for the
longs.
• For coughs, toast garlic, then put it in boiled water with some
lemon drops, add sugar if you wish so. It is like jarabe for kids.
Also the oil of the suri worm cures coughs. One fries de suris without
oils; when frying, the oil of the suris itself will come out. The kids
are given this 3 times per day, one tea spoon full.
• One uses the transparent liquid of unripe huito as an insect
repellent.
• In the past one used the resin of the catahua tree for snake bites.
It was applied only once where bitten. Another medicine which was used
in the past for snake bites is the stem of the piri-piri. It is
chancada and then cernado en un colador. Then you mix with boiled
water and drink it. Now a certain type of small stone is used, which
sticks to the bite. The stone remains stuck to the bite till you are
well cured.
• There are also herbs for tooth pain, however for now, Lola cannot
remember their names.
