Marianne van Vlaardingen KEEPERS OF THE AMAZON

Marianne van Vlaardingen, originally from the Netherlands, has spent most of her life in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, particularly in Manu National Park and Cusco. She first arrived in Manu as a research biologist in 1987 and later became one of its pioneering eco-tour guides. Alongside her Peruvian partner, she co-founded Pantiacolla Tours, an eco-agency dedicated to responsible travel and conservation.

In 2009, after witnessing the impact of oil exploitation in Manu, Marianne joined forces with indigenous communities in a legal battle to protect their lands. Her dedication to preserving the Amazon rainforest continues to inspire conservation efforts worldwide.

Our mission is simple: to inspire you to become a true Keeper of the Amazon, an advocate for its protection and a voice for its conservation.

  1. Hey there! Really enjoyed this post about the Amazon. It’s amazing to hear about the individuals working tirelessly to protect it. Quick question, though: how can someone from far away, like myself, contribute to the Amazon’s preservation efforts? Love the idea of becoming an «Amazon Keeper» and would appreciate any tips you have. Thanks for shedding light on such an important topic!

  2. Great overview of the Amazon’s significance and the efforts to protect it. I’m curious, aside from eco-tours, are there ways for people not visiting the region to support conservation effectively? Also, any tips on how tourism prices impact local communities?
