1 DAY CUSCO NATURE TOUR
Explore the Cusco Valley on a full-day nature tour. Start at Huacarpay Lake, a great place for birdwatching, and spot species like the Plumbeous Rail and the Bearded Mountaineer.
In the afternoon, visit Ccochahuasi, an animal rescue center where you can see the Andean Condor up close. Continue to Awanacancha, where Andean communities demonstrate traditional weaving techniques.
Then, visit the Tambomachay wetland, home to the Andean Goose. Next, head to the Sacsayhuaman Table Mountain for panoramic views of the Cusco Valley. End the day at Plaza San Francisco, a botanical garden in the historic center.
ITINERARY
Huacarpay Lake
The tour begins in the city of Cusco, located at 3,399 meters above sea level. From here, local guides take us on a journey into the valley to explore its nature and history.
After an 1-hour drive from Cusco city, we reach Huacarpay Lake. We walk along the road to see species like the Plumbeous Rail and the Bearded Mountaineer, an endemic hummingbird. Along the way, we also find Wari and Inka ruins and Peruvian-modern agricultural plots.
Wildlife Rescue Center Ccochahuasi & Weaving at Awanacancha
After a 45-minute drive, we arrive at Ccochahuasi, an animal rescue center home to Andean wildlife, including a very approachable and majestic Andean Condor. Next, we visit Awanacancha («Awana» means weaving), a community project where local weavers show how Andean textiles are made using hand-dyed alpaca and vicuña wool.
Birdwatching at the Tambomachay Wetland
After a 50-minute drive, we reach Tambomachay, located at 3,700 meters above sea level, a high-altitude wetland home to the Andean Goose and other native bird species. We take a short walk to explore this ecosystem and learn about its importance in Andean culture.
Panoramic Views from Sacsayhuaman Table Mountain
A 10-minute drive takes us to the Sacsayhuaman Table Mountain, where we enjoy panoramic views of the Cusco Valley. Here, we explore the surroundings and learn about the historical and geographical significance of this area.
Finally, we descend in a 20-minute drive to the San Francisco Square, located in the heart of Cusco, Peru. This square is designed as a botanical garden, where the guide introduces us to native plant species. The tour ends near the Plaza de Armas, the main square of Cusco.
